Hungarian OHS trends of the pandemic period

At the end of 2019, the National Occupational Safety Committee highlights the importance of the increasing number of workplaces and the growing attention towards employees. Since then, for securing this aim entitlement of OHS professionals and their authorization was revised to support the right occupational and safety actions. Also, the education of employees got greater stress than before.

At the yearly monitoring, a high ratio of contradiction to the laws was found at over 70% of the cases some faults were found. Between the examined sectors building-trade showed an extremely bad picture together with catering trade and commerce. Actions were taken to encourage lawful practice in these areas.

When examining the causes of incidents and the occurrence of work-related diseases mainly technical and technological deficiencies are found causing chemical, biological and physical exposure. Ergonomic complaints appear in 17,54% of the overall notifications. Owing to chemical exposure as a leading cause a new decree was issued for the health maintenance of exposed employees. Therefore 2020 became the year of inspection of increased exposure cases, by all means, such as personal protection, work organization, risk assessment, etc.

In this year Hungarian OHS professionals had to face problems from the evolving of the pandemic situation focusing on similar preventive actions as in other parts of the world. Sick-leave days, work-organization, remote work, spreading of information, and providing guidance. Traditional measures were supplemented with recommendations for dealing with covid-19.
